Many packs are difficult to work with as they do not appear to conform to the symbolism of traditional Tarot, and if you are considering learning to work with the Sacred Tarot, it is best to begin with a traditional pack and to learn what the symbolism actually means, before perhaps moving on to something more unusual. Out of the vast array of traditional packs that there are now available to us I would suggest that possibly a few of the best are:- The New Paladini pack The Aquarian pack The Rider Waite pack The Golden Rider pack The Morgan Greer pack The Gilded Tarot pack Legacy of the Divine Tarot (collectable) ...all of these are very traditional, with very similar symbolism. My own particular favorite is The New Paladini pack because of the beautiful colours which do, to some extent represent the atmosphere surrounding each card. The pack itself is a joy to work with, possibly because of the energy that comes through from the person who created it. (who also created The Aquarian pack) It is quite possible to work with just the Major Arcana to begin with when starting to work with the Sacred Tarot, To try to begin to understand and connect with the whole pack can be very difficult and a little self defeating at the beginning. Look at the Major Arcana, as the cards which also represent all the cards of the Minor Arcana, which indeed they do! The Major Arcana are the major mysteries or 'secrets', and in fact the Minor Arcana are simply elaborating on this theme. This is why the Major Arcana are the most important cards in the Tarot, and the Minor Arcana are used to qualify the information that is given to us by the Major. A good way to begin, is to take out three of the major Arcana for a reading and make them.. past... present... future. And when you have established what these cards are saying to you, then perhaps move on to take three cards for each of these main cards from the minor Arcana, and place them beside each of the major Arcana ...for example... The past card will have three cards surrounding it... as will the present card and future card. And from this you should be able to read an enormous amount of information, simply with these 12 cards split up into three groups. When starting up initially with the Tarot, it is tempting to be very particular about the meanings of each card, and to become over reliant on the meanings that you read in a book or the information that came to you together with the pack..... you need not do this! A much better way, is to try and take the general meaning from the atmosphere of the card itself. Really look into the card.... and take note of all it tells you. An excellent idea is to write down everything that you can find out about this card simply by looking at it, and this way you will connect with it very closely, and you will never forget its meaning to you! The Sacred Tarot is a complex system, full of Arcane mysteries... even after 25 years of reading it, I still discover things that I had not been aware of before. It holds many secrets, many I believe have yet to be revealed. It can be a comforting and invaluable tool for life. Look after your cards, respect them, and they will from time to time allow you a glimpse of their deeper secrets! Make haste slowly, and work with humility, and your Tarot Cards will eventually opened their secrets to you! To learn more about the Sacred Tarot go to our sister site
